The VA may rate service-connected disabilities under 38 CFR Part 4 and pay monthly compensation under 38 U.S.C. § 1110 (wartime) or § 1131 (peacetime). The combined-rating estimator computes an estimated monthly amount under 38 CFR § 4.25 if you have one or more rated conditions.

Other West Virginia-published programs

  • Homestead Exemption for Disabled Veterans. West Virginia exempts the first $20,000 of assessed value from property tax on the homestead of veterans who are 100% totally and permanently service-connected disabled (age and other criteria may apply to alternate pathways). Source.
  • Military Retirement Income Exemption. West Virginia exempts federal military retirement pay from state income tax. VA disability compensation is already federally tax-exempt; this affects retirement income only. Source.
